This is another rare kit from Kawai/Bluetank of Taiwan. This is basically the Honda 50cc Mini Trail that you may have seen when you were kid. Originally these bikes were meant for the street but were adapted to use on trails for the US and other markets by changing the exhaust routing and possibly some other modifications. The original Honda Mini Trail had a rigid frame with shocks only on the front forks. I believe the later models of this bike started to offer rear suspension. This kit is really a great effort by such a small manufacturer. The kit includes details like a molded chain tension mechanism as well as actual small plastic bolts that secure the engine in place. Also, you can build the kit either stock or cafe racer. On the down side, fit could of been a bit better but the kit really builds into a nice model with some effort. I had to make the decals myself because the kit doesn't contain the ones needed for the stock version.
Honda decided to re-release the Monkey, but its currently designed to be driven on the street. If you feel you missed something when you a kid and would still like to own a Mini Trail, there are numerous Chinese knock offs that are being sold today with 125 cc engines. In addition, Honda has also reintroduced the Monkey, but the new bike seem to be designed for street use only. You can check out the new Honda Monkey by clicking on the link below:
