Chuck,
Cool build on the opening page. I also like the second build on the page with the blue (Testor's # 8 maybe) orange and white color combo. Then of course the photos of the actual truck completed as well as under construction are great !
I've been threatening to build my kit of this truck for years, your thread is most inspirational...now an age old, or old age dilemma I often face. This kit was released in the 1960's sometime, when I was a kid. If I had built it back then I probably would NOT HAVE PAINTED IT, instead I would have left it as it came, orange plastic. Second, IF I would have wired the engine it would have been a VERY BASIC WIRING JOB and I WOULD NO DOUBT HAVE USED SEWING THREAD from Mom's sewing kit. CAR MODEL Magazine told us to "pull the thread through some wax, a candle for instance to kill the FUZZIENESS.
So here's my problem, should I build it like I would have as a kid or should I build it with the knowledge or lack of knowledge that I have today ? I know in which direction I leaning, but I'd like some other's suggestions.

I don't think any kid painted these when they built them back in the 60's
always thought it was a brilliant marketing idea on the part of Monogram back in the 60's
that orange plastic sure smelled goo back then

Chuck,
You're right about not painting the Monogram kits, I've got several on my shelf that are only polished plastic. Both the old Monogram kits AND the old AMT kit plastics polish up really well.

Why not build two of them?... I'm guessing you could find two of them real cheap one as if you were a 12 year old kid using only what was available back in the 60's and one with the 50 plus years of adult experiance we both have
I bought this Dodge pickup that Dave Burket built and lettered in the early 70's

I freshened it up a bit in 2018. keeping his "Donkey Express"hand lettering If I wanted to re-do it entirely...I would have picked up another kit
